Bio

Tammy Griffin works across a variety of media both in traditional sculpture and painting genres, and more recently blending these older paradigms into electronic media. Over 30 years of artistic production has seen her involvement in community-based projects in the Eastern Cape, her unique and innovative production of artworks, and her ability to constantly show ground-breaking approaches to traditional artistic processes and genres.

2010:
Moved to the Western Cape.  Painted a series of abstract landscapes inspired by Kommetjie winter skies, 6 works currently represented by Johans Borman Fine Art.
Had two informal exhibitions of electronic works from Intimate Circuits series in and around Cape Town.

2007-2009:
Painted a series of abstract landscapes inspired by the Eastern Cape highlands.
Exhibited on group show X2 at 2009 National Arts Festival, Grahamstown.

2006:
First Solo exhibition Intimate Circuits at João Ferreira Gallery, Cape Town.  Made three 2-minute movies on the making of Intimate Circuits.
Illustration and cover design for a series of books published by Environmental Education Unit, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.

2004 – 2005:
Received a two year materials grant from the NAC for Intimate Circuits series – was one of 20 visual artists in the country to receive this grant.
Exhibited on group show Sounds Crazy at the 2005 National Arts Festival, Grahamstown, a collaboration between Studio for Interactive Sound (Grahamstown) and STEIM (The Netherlands).
Exhibited on group show Paperworks at the 2005 National Arts Festival, Grahamstown by East Cape Provincial Government.
Illustration and cover for ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) Reference Guide published by Department of Education and UNISA, North West Province.

2003:
Exhibited on group show Console, National Arts Festival, Grahamstown.

2002:
Received the Raymond Pullen scholarship and Rhodes Masters scholarship, Rhodes University.  Started a Master of Fine Art (MFA) and withdrew after 9 months to begin painting full time.
Illustration and cover designs for publications by Water Research Commission.
Designed cover for South African Poets on Poetry, published by Gecko Poetry, Durban.

2001:
Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) with distinction in Theory of Art, Rhodes University.  Three paintings purchased by Rhodes University Alumni Collection.

1994 – 1997: 
Designed a 1000-image digital art collection (with Toni Olivier) published internationally in various software bundles, including Coreldraw and Art Explosion. Published until present day.
